Fun events for everyone in the family.
As the days grow longer and the mountain temperatures rise, Monarch Mountain “springs” alive with events for all ages of participants and spectators.
Fifth Annual Kayaks on Snow Boatercross
Kayaks will be returning to the slopes of Monarch Mountain on Saturday, April 3, 2010. Kayakers from Colorado and the southwest will be competing for prizes (which include a new Kayak, cruiser bike and 2010-2011 Monarch Mountain season pass) and the all important “bragging rights”. The Boatercross event sends multiple kayaks, competing head to head down a course with banked corners, berms, rollers and small jumps. A single elimination format matches the fastest boats in the finals. The specially constructed Boatercross course on the Freeway run, located at the base area, has been a great event for participants and spectators alike.
New Belgium brewery is the title sponsor for this year’s event and the crew from Fort Collins will be giving away SWAG and prizes. KEEN footwear will have a prize wheel for everyone to spin. An expo area with Colorado Kayak Supply and the staff from River Runners will keep spectators entertained between heats. The entire event can be viewed from the base lodge deck and is free to the public.
Participant registration for the event is $20 and includes an event T-shirt. The registration opens at 10:00, practice starts at 11:00 and single elimination runs begin at 1:00.
Easter Sunday belongs to the Kids!
The day after the Kayaks on Snow event, Sunday April 4, 2010, is all about Kids. The day will begin with an Easter egg hunt and a chance to ski with the Easter Bunny for children 8 and under. These “8 and unders” are invited to bring their Easter basket up to Monarch Mountain for an Easter egg hunt and to ski with the Easter Bunny. The Easter egg hunt will start at 11:00 at the Children’s Center; no lift ticket is required and don’t forget your camera to take a picture with the Easter Bunny.
An “Expression Session”, in the Tilt Terrain Park, is open to kids 12 and under. These young rippers can show off “what they’ve got” on the small rails, fun boxes and jumps. The Tilt Terrain Park has been very popular with young skiers and riders wanting to try smaller rails, fun boxes and jumps. Monarch Mountain is inviting all young rippers to the mountain to show what they have learned this season. Riders from the Option 23 Freeride Team will be on hand with tips and prizes for the young shredders.
Closing Day Sunday April 11, 2010 takes Tailgating to a whole new level!
The Closing Day Cook-off in the (Parking) Lot celebrates Monarch Mountain’s close to another great season with outrageous food and libations. Monarch guests have been setting up grills and tailgating in the Monarch parking lot for years. Several years back this annual event turned into a full-fledged competition with prizes being awarded for best food and best décor. The only entry cost is having enough food and beverages for the judges. Prizes include a 2010-11 Monarch Mountain Season Pass.
